Assam: 137 Cancer patients reach Guwahati from Mumbai

GUWAHATI: In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, 137 cancer patients and two attendants arrived in Guwahati from Mumbai on Tuesday night. They reached Guwahati by 6 sleeper buses. Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and his deputy Pijush Hazarika received the cancer patients at Sarusajai stadium. After requisite screening the patients were sent for quarantine.

The cancer patients were brought to Assam under the guidance of Devashish Sharma, joint resident commissioner of the Assam Bhawan in Mumbai.

Talking to media persons health minister Dr. Sarma said, “We will take their swabs and they will stay at Radisson Blu Hotel. Their test report will come tomorrow late night. If they test negative they will be sent for home quarantine.”

Dr. Sarma also stated that the cost of the entire journey has been borne by the Assam Government and a voluntary organisation.
