In a heinous crime, a 12-year-old girl’s body was recovered from the septic tank of a residence in Margherita in Tinsukia district.
The minor girl was sexually assaulted and later murdered by one Anan Tanti who is currently on the run.
As per reports, the child and her mother had gone to attend a Bihu program on May 1 in North Margherita. When the child fell asleep, the mother took her child to the house of Anan Tanti who is an acquaintance.
The next morning, the woman came asking for her daughter but was nowhere to be found.
The minor girl’s family immediately approached the police.
After the family of the minor asked for help from the locals, they raided the rented house of the accused last night following which the spine-chilling incident came to light.
Police who soon rushed to the spot recovered the victim’s body from the septic tank.
Meanwhile, the accused Annan Tanti is absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused. His wife has been detained, police said.
The women’s committee as well as the local people created a heated situation in front of Anan Tanti’s residence.
