Asif Basra leaves behind memorable work with his niche acting style

Guwahati: The year 2020 is proving to be unlucky for the Bollywood industry. The film industry has lost revenue and many famous stars this year.

Senior Bollywood actor Asif Basra has committed suicide. Asif is no more in this world. Reportedly, he killed himself by hanging at his private complex in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh’s.

 According to reports, Asif had been living in a live-in with a woman for the past few years. The actor lived in a rented house in Dharamsala. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was suffering from depression. The police are currently investigating the matter.

Although the 53-year-old actor generally appeared on screen for small durations, Asif was recognised for his realistic acting and has definitely created a niche for himself in the world of entertainment.

The actor started his career in 1998 with the film ‘Woh’.

Let’s remember some of his works

  1. Paatal Lok: In this 2020 Amazon Prime Video thriller series, Asif played the role of Jai Malik, a journalist, and appeared in four episodes. The series is loosely based on journalist Tarun Tejpal’s novel Story of My Assassins.
  2. Hostages: He was appearing in the 2020 series which premiers on Star Plus and Hotstar. The series stars actors like Ronit Roy and Tisca Chopra. The second season of his series was released in September this year.
  3. Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai – Asif Basra was seen as Inspector Hussain Khan, a character based on Head-constable Ibrahim Kaskar. The movie starred Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi in the lead roles. Asif portrayed a father who tried to control his son from going astray.
  4. The Tashkent Files: He again played the role of a journalist, this time a news channel editor, in the controversial 2019 movie The Tashkent Film based on the death of India’s former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
  5. Black Friday: In Anurag Kashyap’s film which was released in India in 2007, Asif played the role of Shanawaz Qureshi. The movie is based on a book on the 1993 Bombay bombings. Asif played the role of one of the accused of the bombings.
  6. Kai Po Che: In this 2013 movie starring actors Rajkummar Rao, late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh as friends, Asif played the role of Nasir, father of a boy named Ali. The movie has many sub-plots going, one of the most prominent ones is the three friends trying to teach cricket to Ali.
  7. Ek Villain – Asif Basra, played Aadesh Verma, actress Shraddha Kapoor’s father in the movie.
  8. Outsourced – Asif Basra played the role of Puro N. Virajnarianan in the Hollywood film.
  9. Jab We Met: Basra played a cunning stall owner in Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 film “Jab We Met”, alongside the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor.
