Vinesh Phogat Monday (Aug 20) became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal in the Asian Games after she grabbed a top podium finish defeating Japan’s Yuki Irie in the 50-kg-weight category. Phogat won 6-2.

She had won a bronze in the women’s freestyle 48 kg category at Incheon in 2014 and was one of the favourites to win a Gold in Indonesia.
This is India’s second gold in the Games, the first one too coming in wrestling after Bajrang Punia won the first gold for India yesterday (Aug 19).
