Asian Games | Hima Das & Co. win historic 400 m relay Gold

PUBLISHED:

Assam Express Hima Das led the quartet of quarter milers to a historic gold in the women’s 4×400 Metres final to etch her name in record books and emerge as one of the most successful Indian sportsperson of the 18th Asian Games.

India took the gold with a timing of 3:28.72 while Bahrain came second, bagging the silver clocking 3:30.61 while Vietnam, with a timing of 3:33.23, claimed the bronze.

Hima, who had earlier won silver medals in the 400 metres & mixed 400 metres relay, started the race as the first runner for India and took a big lead in the first 400 metres to give India the edge as her fellow team members — Saritaben Gayakwad, MR Poovamma and Vismaya Koroth — capitalized on the firm start the ace Assam runner gave.

Meanwhile, people across Assam, and more particularly at Dhing — her home town — erupted in joy after Hima became the second sportsperson from Assam after Bhogeswar Boruah to win a gold medal in Asian Games.

“It’s a very proud moment for us, for Assam and the entire country that Hima and her teammates could win the Gold medal for the nation,” her father Ranjit Das told News Live.
