Arunachal Home Minister launches vaccination drive against COVID-19 in state

GUWAHATI: Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday joined the rest of the nation in the launch of the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination drive. Home Minister Bamang Felix launched the vaccination campaign in the state from Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science, at Naharlagun.

According to a News on Air, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said that only healthcare and frontline workers will receive the vaccination in the first phase. He said the state has over 23 thousand health workers and over 7 thousand Army and Paramilitary forces that would be covered in the first phase.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu was present at the District Hospital of Tawang to monitor the vaccination process.

Taking to Twitter Khandu said, “Arunachal is elated to join with rest of the nation in the launch of world’s largest #COVID19 vaccination drive. The vaccine is being administered to 900 beneficiaries all over the State in the first phase. Attended one such launching drive at District Hospital of Tawang today.”

The COVID-19 vaccination drive was inaugurated at 9 session sites across the state – KDS District Hospital Tawang, Bakin Pertin General Hospital Pasighat, District Hospital Yingkiong, District Hospital Namsai, TRIHMS Naharlagun, GT General Hospital Ziro, General Hospital Aalo, District Hospital Seppa and District Hospital Longding.

The inoculation in the rest of the districts and blocks will continue from tomorrow. Arunachal Pradesh has received a total of 32,000 doses of the Serum Institute of India’s Covishield vaccine.
