Massive protest against AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal after the Dhubri Lok Sabha MP Wednesday lost his cool as he verbally abused a reporter and threw his microphone and logo besides trying to physically assault him. Ajmal, who was attending a party meeting at Hatsingimari in South Salmara-Mankachar district, was enraged after a question posed by the reporter whether he will ally with the Congress or the BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Journalists, journalist bodies, student unions, civil society leaders as well as leaders of various political parties condemned the attack on the fourth pillar of democracy as many people raised demands for his arrest for threatening the journalist.
Effigies of the AIUDF supremo were also burnt at many places.

“It’s a very very unfortunate incident. Badruddin Ajmal has shown his true colours by using highly abusive and derogatory language against a journalist. It’s highly condemnable. Assam Police should arrest him for intimidation and for threatening the journalist with dire consequence,” a protester said in Dibrugarh.
Protests were held across Assam and it echoed in other parts of the country as people, journalists included, slammed the AIUDF chief for the reprehensible act.
Ajmal, meanwhile, has taken to the social media apologising for the incident.
