Dibrugarh Police are trying to ascertain as to whether more middlemen were involved in the APSC cash-for-jobs scam after the arrest of advocate Sailendra Sharma Barua and middleman Surajit Chowdhury who is also the husband of arrested ACS officer Pallabi Sharma Chowdhury.
A team of Dibrugarh Police raided Surajit Chowdhury’s residence yesterday (July 25) evening in search of a mobile phone that is now believed to be key in linking more people with the recruitment scam.
Police, however, failed to locate the mobile phone despite a marathon search at Chowdhury’s house located at Chatribari in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, amid accusations against Sailendra Sharma Barua and Surajit Chowdhury of trying to influence and bribe a judge so as to secure Pallabi Sharma Chowdhury’s bail, investigators are now probing whether any money was paid to the judge who, police sources say, has already been identified.
Dibrugarh Police, incidentally, had hinted at the possibility of making a few more arrests following some clinching evidence they have gathered during the course of the investigation process.
