GUWAHATI, Feb 18: Already under fire following his British wife’s alleged ISI links and his meeting then Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit at the Pakist High Comission in New Delhi in 2015, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi — son of three-term Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the deputy leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha — finds himself in yet another soup: this time in the wake of some explosive allegations made by Justice (retd) Biplab Sarma in his one-man commission report probing the infamous APSC cash-for-jobs scam.
The report mentions quoting an accused in the cash-for-jobs scam that Rakesh Paul gave “gold ornaments such as chains, rings, bracelets etc” during the marriage of Gaurav Gogoi.
The report also mentions how former Chief Minister Gogoi made Paul, then a member of the commission, APSC chairman flouting prescribes rules and norms.
Meanwhile reacting to the developments, Raijor Dol supremo and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi said he holds Tarun Gogoi among the key accused of the scam since it was the former CM who had appointed Rakesh Paul, who Akhil Gogoi said did not possess the qualification to become APSC chairman.
“I have always felt that former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi should also be considered as one of the key accused or villains of the APSC scam since he had made Rakesh Paul chairman of the commission despite the latter never meriting to hold the post,” Akhil Gogoi said, while addressing media persons at his Nizarapar residence today (Feb 18).
