APSC Cash-for-Job Scam: Absconding ACS Officer arrested by SIT

In a swift move against an officer whose name had cropped up in connection with the infamous APSC cash-for-jobs scam, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police arrested an absconding ACS officer on Wednesday evening.

The accused identified as Rakesh Das, Assistant Employment Officer who has been absconding since November 12  had been arrested from the Beltola area of the city.

Das has been detained after his name was also featured in the list of candidates who allegedly got government jobs through unfair means. 

The arrested officer is among the 34 officers named by Justice (retired) Biplab Sharma commission formed to look into the scandel that came to light in 2016 when many successful candidates including who appeared in the Combined Competitive Examination 2013 were alleged to have indulged in irregular practices with the alleged involvement of Rakesh Paul, the then APSC chairman.

The arrest is being made after the one-man commission submitted its report and named 34 officers of the infamous 2013 batch, including Das who was arrested yesterday, against whom anomalies is found.

This directive comes as the state government intensifies its efforts to restore the credibility of the prestigious examinations, which have been marred by allegations of irregularities and misconduct.
