Apply to become a Bicycle Councillor or the next Junior Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Applications are now called to select the next Junior Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati as well as 21 more Bicycle Councillors for the remaining 21 wards of the city.


A team of 10 Bicycle Councillors from 10 municipal wards of Guwahati along with two Bicycle Ambassadors were selected in November 2020 who are currently working with the Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati to make the city the most cycling friendly one in India by 2030.

The primary role of a Bicycle Councillor is to work towards the promotion of cycling in their wards by engaging with the people, communicating with various stakeholders and organising activities, campaigns and events, etc. Any citizen of India and a resident of Guwahati between the ages of 18 to 65 can apply.

The last date for application is 15th May 2021. To give the youngsters of the city a voice to make the city safe for cycling a Junior Bicycle Mayor was also appointed. The first Junior Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati, Mr Malav Dutta, was selected on 3rd June 2020. His tenure is for 1 year and the search for the next Junior Bicycle Mayor has been started. Any Indian Boy or Girl between the ages 12 to 17 and studying between classes 6th to 11th in any school from Guwahati can apply.

The above positions are recognised by BYCS – a Netherlands based social enterprise working towards promoting cycling across the world. The programs have been initiated by the Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati with the support of Pedal for a Change, Guwahati Active Mobility Forum and The Green Lane Foundation.
