GUWAHATI: An official of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) of Tezpur Division was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday evening for demanding and taking bribe.
The accused Prakash Ranjan Dutta allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh from a contractor Diganta Goswami for the installation of solar meter in his company. The deal was later fixed at ₹80 thousand.
According to sources, the Anti-Corruption Bureau acting on a tip conducted a sting operation and held the accused Dutta.
The APDCL employee was caught red-handed from a hotel at Mission Chariali, Tezpur by the ACB while accepting the bribe which was then recovered from his possession.
The victim Diganta Goswami also claimed that the conspiracy was planned by Dutta and another APDCL employee Jiten Kumar Dhekial Phukan.
