GUWAHATI, Dec 6: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah on Friday dared to pull Srimanta Shankardeva into the beef controversy, leading to angry reactions from several Satridhikars — the administrative and religious heads of Vaishnavaite institutions — who demanded that legal action be taken against the Assam Congress chief.
“Srimanta Sankardeva always believed in inclusiveness and wanted to take everyone forward in his quest to create a greater Assamese race and never advocated restrictions on cultural and food habits of anybody,” the APCC President said while trying to justify his and the Congress party’s displeasure of the ban on consumption of beef in public places imposed by the Assam Government.
Bhupen Borah also pulled Chaolung Siu-ka-pha into the controversy, saying he, too, was against any restrictions imposed on the culture and food habits of any community or tribe.
Bhupen Borah’s shocking statements have led to angry reactions with several Satradhikars fuming at the Assam Congress President unnecessary pulling Srimanta Shankardeva and Siu-ka-pha into the beef ban controversy.
