Guwahati: In yet another incident of a police encounter, a rape accused was gunned down by the Assam Police at Udalguri district in the wee hours of Wednesday when he tried to flee from Police custody.
Rajesh Munda was arrested for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl at Dhansiri Tea Estate on March 10.
Mundra sustained bullet injuries while he tried to escape from police custody at Majbat.
He was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
It is to be noted that Munda, the accused, was being taken to the crime scene for further investigation when he tried to jump out of the police vehicle and make good his escape.
Munda’s death comes hours after Biki Ali, the prime accused in the Garigaon gang rape case of a 16-year-old girl, was killed in police firing by Guwahati police on Tuesday night.
Biki, incidentally, was nabbed from Dampur hills of Kamrup district where he was hiding to avoid arrest on Tuesday.
