Another medical college coming up in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam government is going to set up a new medical college in Guwahati. This will be the second medical college in the city. The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) started its functioning on September 20 in 1960.

Attending the Independence Day celebration at Morigaon, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced, “This year we have initiated to establish new medical colleges at Biswanath Chariali, Charaideo, Goalpara and second one in Guwahati. Seventy per cent works for AIIMS at Changsari have been done. We have also started the process of setting up a new medical college at Morigaon.”

In his speech, Dr. Sarma mentioned about the Assam government’s flagship Orundoi scheme which will benefit 29 lakh families of the scheme. Under the scheme, 19 lakh families will get a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 900.
