As campaigning for the third phase of elections barely a week away reaches its crescendo, Union home minister Amit Shah is set to hold a 2km roadshow in the city for the BJP candidate from the prestigious Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency, Bijuli Kalita Medhi.
BJP’s state spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita said Shah will land in the city on Monday afternoon and he will hold the roadshow from the Cycle Factory point to the Lal Ganesh point on Lakhra road on Monday evening.
“We are expecting a gathering of over 1 lakh people at the roadshow. The party workers are ready to join the roadshow of the home minister making it a success. The roadshow may be the biggest rally in Guwahati in the city’s election history,” he added.
The roadshow is likely to begin around 5.30 pm on Monday.
Margherita said people in large numbers joined the rallies held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during the campaigning for the first phase and the second phase.
“On that basis, it can be said that the participation in the roadshow will be over 1 lakh. This shows the people’s support towards the PM Modi-led govt for the sake of development,” he added.
Meanwhile, talking about the performance of the party in the first and second phases of the elections, he said it will win all the 10 seats which went to the polls in the first two phases.
“Even though there was a battle in two out of five seats in the second phase, the party’s ground report after the polls shows that we will win those seats as well,” he added.
Kaziranga, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and Jorhat Lok Sabha constituencies went to the polls in the first phase on April 19, while Darranga-Udalguri, Diphu, Karimganj, Silchar and Nagaon went to the polls in the second phase on April 26.
Guwahati along with Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Barpeta will go to polls in the third phase on May 7.
