Former Union Finance and Home minister P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI from his Jor Bagh residence Wednesday night amid some dramatic scenes. CBI and ED sleuths and Delhi police personnel scaled the walls of his residence before taking him into custody.
Chidambaram was arrested in connection with the INX media case. He was then taken to the CBI headquarters.
The 73-year-old former Finance and Home Minister had earlier made a surprise appearance at the Congress headquarters, 27 hours after he went “missing”. The forer Union minister said he has faith in the law “even if it is applied by an unequal hand” by investigative agencies.
The fresh developments surrounding Chidambaram first began with the Delhi High Court Tuesday refusing to provide him any further protection from arrest. The Supreme Court also refused an urgent hearing on his request for anticipatory bail and will hear the petition on Friday (Aug 23).
