Guwahati: Amid Bhogali Bihu celebrations, Assam sees dip in daily Covid cases with 2,348 new infections on Friday.
On Friday the state reported a marginal decline in its daily COVID-19 cases as testing numbers fell sharply amidst Bhogali Bihu celebrations.
In the last 24 hours, the state reported 2,348 cases out of 30,109 tests conducted, new fatalities due to the virus, however, witnessed a spike once again to 5 on Friday as opposed to 3 on Thursday.
Among the new cases, the highest number of cases were reported from Kamrup Metro (870), Cachar (222), Dibrugarh (147) and Jorhat (140).
Meanwhile, five new COVID-19 related death were reported in the state during the day.
According to NHM Assam, the fresh fatalities were reported from Kamrup Metro (3), Bongaigaon (1) and Darrang (1).
The overall death toll has now reached 6,197 cases.
The positivity rate currently stands at 7.80%.
With this, the cumulative tally of Assam has touched 6,40,636.
Meanwhile, 861 people were discharged from the hospital in 24 hours, thereby taking the total number of recovered patients to 6,17,825.
Due to the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in the state the government did cancel fairs and related events fearing the spread of the coronavirus infection.
