The religious rituals associated with the Ambubachi Mela got underway at the Kamakhya temple after the doors of the Shakti shrine were closed for visitors after ‘Prabhriti’ yesterday (Friday) that marks the beginning of Goddess Kamakhya’s annual menstrual cycle.
The temple doors will be reopened for devotees on Tuesday morning with lakhs of devotees expected to visit the temple and offer prayers to Goddess Kamakhya.

Amid lakhs of devotees coming from across the country and even abroad, several Sadhus camping in the Nilachal Hills have been at the centre of all attraction with many of them said to possess mystical powers.

Meanwhile, adequate arrangements have been put in place with multi-layered security put in place for the four-day festival.
Over 400 CCTV cameras have been installed and control rooms set up to monitor every activity in and around the temple.
