GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration is working round-the-clock for the Ambubachi Mela 2019, the most-awaited religious event of Assam that will start from 22nd June at the Kamakhya Temple premises here in Guwahati.
For the lodging of devotees arriving from different parts of the country, four camps have been set up at Pandu, Naharbari, Badipara and Fancy Bazar. The largest camp has been set up at the Old Central Jail campus in Fancy Bazar. The Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration is leaving no stone unturned to make the Ambubachi Mela a peaceful and successful event.
Biswajit Pegu, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) is a busy man taking stock of the facilities at the temporary camps set up in four different locations. News Live met him at the largest camp in Old Central Jail campus, Fancy Bazar and tried to understand how the preparations were going.
“We are expecting to serve over 20,000 devotees in this camp and are looking at everything that will help the devotees have a comfortable stay during the mela. We are providing all the required facilities to the devotees coming for the Ambubachi Mela. From their lodging to water requirements, to medical facilities and especially the security, we are arranging everything in a structured manner. Our preparations are in good swing and all the camps will be ready before the event. Those devotees who have arrived early, we are providing them whatever facilities they need,” said DC Biswajit Pegu.
On vehicle restrictions to the temple premises the Deputy Commissioner said, “Of now, no such restrictions have been imposed. Though devotees will walk to the temple premises but we have arranged a few vehicles for divyangs, women and elderly or children who might need such an arrangement. Yes, for those arriving by trains for the Ambubachi Mela we will ferry them to the camps. We have tied up with the ASTC for the transportation of these devotees.”
