The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Wednesday protested in Lakhimpur demanding immediate shut-down of construction of Lower Subansiri dam. The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has completed almost 70 percent of construction of the lower Subansiri hydro project.

The protesters also burned the effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and NHPC simultaneously. They asked the Chief Minister to immediately shut-down the construction programme on the Lower Subansiri dam.

It should be noted that, not following the instruction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) the NHPC continued the construction work and completed almost 70 percent.
