GUWAHATI: Ending all speculations surrounding her dramatic switch to the BJP, former Congress leader Ajanta Neog – a three-term minister in the Tarun Gogoi-led government – today said that she will formally join the saffron party in Guwahati tomorrow (Dec 29).

She announced her decision to join the BJP tomorrow while speaking exclusively to News Live Chief Managing Editor Syed Zarir Hussain in his prime time talk show ‘Prekhyapat’.

“I will join the BJP tomorrow,” she said, adding that the Congress party is facing a massive leadership crisis both in Assam as well as centrally.

Ajanta Neog – considered one of the ablest ministers former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had in his council of ministers – had on Saturday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Guwahati, ending speculations about her next political move amid reports of her probable switch to the BJP.

“I will join the BJP and have therefore met Home Minister Amit Shah,” she had said on Saturday, ending her silence after her hour-long interaction with Shah at the PWD Guest House at Amingaon.

The former Assam PWD Minister, interestingly, was shunted out as president of Golaghat District Congress Committee and then expelled from the Congress.

She had tendered her resignation from the party and also as MLA of Golaghat LAC.
