Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Karimuddin Barbhuyan on Saturday claimed that the AIUDF will be in power in Assam by 2031.
The Sonai MLA, however, said party supremo Badruddin Ajmal will not become chief minister and that a ‘khilonjiya’ (indigenous) — in all probability from upper Assam — will be made the chief minister in the event of the party forming the government in Dispur.
“I want to make it clear that we will be in the government by 2026 or 2031. Maulana Badruddin Ajmal is not going to be the CM and the chief minister will be someone from an indigenous tribe or community from upper Assam,” Barbhuyan said in an interview with news agency ANI.
“We understand the sentiment of the people, CM will be from someone among us mainstream Axomia people,” he specifically said.
The AIUDF MLA also claimed that it’s the AIUDF that can make Assam Bangladeshi-free and accused the ruling BJP as well as the Congress of playing politics on the issue.
