GUWAHATI: In an exclusive interview to News Live chief managing editor Syed Zarir Hussain, journalist-cum-activist Ajit Kumar Bhuyan expressed confidence over winning Rajya Sabha elections in Assam with the support of Congress and Badaruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

Defending his decision to contest elections as a common candidate of Congress and AIUDF, Bhuyan said, “AIUDF is not untouchable for me.”

Earlier Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “A person with no self-respect will go to Rajya Sabha with AIUDF’s support. The family of the person till next seventh generation will be defamed if he/she becomes Rajya Sabha MP with the support of AIUDF.”

Meanwhile, Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said, “I have no issue with AIUDF since it is a democratically elected party. I have been saying at the meetings and in my writings to all the parties and organisations who oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act to come under the same umbrella.”

“It is the demand of our society, and the indigenous Assamese to oppose the CAA. An opportunity has come to me. So I should accept this,” Bhuyan added.
