GUWAHATI: People of the state are all set for grand feast of Uruka which marks the onset of Magh Bihu.
People made a beeline to fish markets from early morning hours. The fish market at Uzan Bazaar ghat was abuzz with people even before dawn.
Markets across the state were thronged with buyers bargaining for the different varieties of fish.
By far one of the biggest fishes seen in markets across Assam, a Bhokua weighing 30 kg was sold at Ganeshguri market. The fish was sold at Rs. 45 thousand.
While a 28 kg Bahu fish stole the show in a Tezpur market, another Bahu fish of 22 kg was also sold at Bokakhat. Bhokua of 25 kg and a 20 kg Borali grabbed the attention of the customers in Darrang and Uzan Bazaar fish markets respectively.
It needs to be mentioned that local fish varieties like Chitol, Rohu, Bahu, Sol, Barali and Ari of different price rate dominated the scene in most of the markets of the state.
On the other hand, community fishing events are being held in different parts of the state to mark the celebration of Uruka.
