GUWAHATI, Feb 28: Less than 24 hours after Assam was hit by a 5.3 magnitude earthquake triggering panic among people, a 6.1 magnitude quake shook Nepal with tremors felt in Bihar, Sikkim and Siliguri.

The earthquake was felt around 2.36 am in Nepal’s Bagmati Province, about 189 km north of Muzaffarpur in Bihar.

US Geological Survey pegged the quake at magnitude 5.5.

No reports of damage to property or human casualty or injuries have been reported but the tremor led to panic among people who were in their deep slumber when the earth shook violently.

“It shook us from our sleep. The tremors were very strong. Many people ran out of their homes in panic,” a resident of Kathmandu said.
