Guwahati: The seventh medical college in Assam will be the Diphu Medical College and Research Institute. Almost 80 per cent work has been completed and on 25th November the Out Patients’ Department (OPD) will be inaugurated. Admissions will start from next year. This was stated by Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Located in the hill district of Karbi Anglong, the Diphu Medical College will try to meet the medical demands of the hills districts. Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday gave appointment letters to 205 nurses and 87 third grade employees here in Guwahati.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Sarma said, “Diphu Medical College will help solve the long term issue of medical and health care for the people of the hill districts and other parts of Assam. The work for the Diphu Medical College started in 2011 and will be completed by next year. Of now, a total of 58 faculty members and 44 junior and senior residents have been appointed. The admission process will start from next year.”
The health minister stated that the Diphu Civil Hospital will be amalgamated with the Diphu Medical College. Also, the Diphu Civil Hospital building will house the Assam Cancer Care Foundation’s first cancer institute that will be recognised in July 2020, said Dr. Sarma.
