PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Ahead of New Year and the current festive atmosphere, the Kamrup District Road Safety Committee has recently taken a tough decision to prevent any rash driving or ‘drink and drive’ on the roads.

Following the direction of Committee Chairman and Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu and State Transport Commissioner Adil Khan, a joint operation was launched against the drunk drivers at ABC point on the busy GS Road in Guwahati from the evening of December 25.

The operation was led by Gautam Das, Member Secretary, District Transport Affairs and Kamrup Metropolitan District Road Safety Committee, Mrinmoy Goswami, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Excise Devjit Nath.

A team of excise officers conducted a breath analyzer test and found five drivers driving under the influence of alcohol in excess of the prescribed amount.

An awareness campaign was also launched on the highway to prevent drink and drive or rash driving in the name of the festival.
