Abhinandan Scheme providing a one-time education loan subsidy of up to Rs 50,000 takes off, sanction letters distributed

GUWAHATI, Dec 26: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya today handed over sanction letters to beneficiaries of the ambitious Abhinandan scheme that provides a one-time subsidy of up to Rs 50,000 on education loans.

Sanction letters were distributed among 1,546 applicants in the first batch today.

While Chief Minister Sonowal was the chief guest of the programme held at the Srimanta Sankardeva International auditorium, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was the guest of honour while Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya attended the programme as the special guest.

Students and their parents who have taken education loans of Rs 1 lakh or above can enrol themselves under the scheme.

While education loans sanctioned before March 31 this year and amounting to Rs 1 lakh or more were included included in the scheme, for loans sanctioned since April 1, 2019, the applicant can avail benefits of the scheme after paying 25% of the sanctioned amount.

Several senior officials of the State Finance Department, senior officials of executing financial institutions like SBI were also present in the function.

The scheme was announced by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the 2019-20 State Budget.
