Abhi-Neel Trial | Court frames murder charges against 47 accused

The Nagaon District & Sessions Court Saturday slapped murder charges on all the 47 arrested accused in the Abhijeet-Nilotpal or Abhi-Neel murder case. The court met today (Dec 1) for filing of charges against 47 out of the 48 arrested accused (one arrested accused being a minor) and ordered that all the 47 accused will be tried under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC.

The 47 arrested accused were present in the court when the charges were framed against them.

Meanwhile, parents of Nilotpal and Abhijeet hoped they will get justice and demanded that the killers of their sons be hanged till death.

The court also fixed Jan 5 as the next date of hearing when it is expected to record statements of witnesses.

Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das of Guwahati were lynched by a murderous mob at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district on June 8 this year amid rumours of them being child lifters. Police had arrested 48 persons, including a minor, in connection with the horrific lynching incident and later filed a 46-page charge sheet along with additional documents and a 104-page case diary on Sep 1, naming all 48 arrested persons as accused.

The case was transferred to Nagaon from Karbi Anglong following a request made by Nilotpal and Abhijeet’s families.
