AASU is not an apolitical organisation now: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: Taking a dig at All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the student body has lost its apolitical character.

“AASU is not an apolitical organisation now. AASU should contest election,” said Sarma in Golaghat on Saturday.

While asked about contradictory stands of the AASU leadership on retaining the non-political character of the outfit, Dr. Sarma said that the AASU should fight election in their own symbol.

“I don’t understand their difficult grammar. My point is that AASU should fight election in their own symbol,” the minister added.

The minister also lambasted Congress alleging that the love of the grand old party is limited to the ‘Miyas’ only.

“Love of Congress is only for the Miyas. Congress has started the fight between Miyas and Assamese. They handed over the Batadrava Than to Bangladeshis. They sold their self-respect to Ajmal,” Sarma took potshots at Congress.
