GUWAHATI, Feb 13: Royal Challengers Bengaluru surprised many IPL fans by naming Rajat Patidar as their new captain for the IPL 2025 season. Patidar, who was drafted into the franchise in 2021, will become RCB’s 8th captain.
The announcement was made by the franchise at an event at the KSCA today.

The baton has been passed, and your name has made it to the history books.
It’s time for a new chapter! Let’s give the best fans in the world what they’ve been waiting for all these years. 🙌” RCB stated on ‘X’.
The move to name a new captain was necessitated after RCB did not retain South African Faf du Plessis who was leading the franchise since 2022.
The franchise had retained Patidar, Virat Kohli and Yash Dayal ahead of the 2025 IPL auctions.
