Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has intensified its campaign to regain control of Dispur, has come up with a special plan to counter the Congress-AIUDF. Both the BJP and the AGP have come up with a strategy so that the seats won by the AGP and the BJP in 2016 do not fall into the hands of the opposition.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had to come second in several assembly constituencies due to the secret alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF. With this in mind, the alliance has decided to change its candidature in Central Assam, North Assam, and Lower Assam. Accordingly, the BJP is preparing to contest in several other constituencies held by the AGP and vice versa.
In this context, Assam Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if the BJP-AGP MLA will contest from the same seats it will create some problems. So it has been decided to change the candidates for the respective winning seats.
It is pertinent to note that the AGP-BJP has already started working on changing of candidates in several constituencies with the aim of resisting the Congress-AIUDF. In this context, the AGP-BJP is also in the process of fielding a number of young candidates or new faces.
In the midst of such discussions, Dr. Sarma has made it clear that seat-sharing will be finalized on the basis of people’s view.
It is already clear that many MLAs will lose their constituencies if the AGP-BJP decides to change the coalition. The BJP is all set to field a total of eight candidates, especially from seats held by AGP. The BJP has been secretly preparing to launch new fronts in Kamalpur, West Guwahati, Naharkatiya, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Patacharkuchi, Teok and Dergaon.
The BJP, on the other hand, is all set to give AGP Raha, Batadrava, Palasbari and Bishwanath constituencies.
Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that wherever the AGP has MLAs, it has held a number of meetings. Similarly, the BJP has held meetings with all its previous MLAs and party leaders. This will allow the electorate to decide whether they want a front-runner or a BJP candidate. Through these meetings, in fact, we are getting the idea in terms of voters, said the senior BJP leader.
AGP president Atul Bora’s also commented on the issue of change of candidates in the constituency.
“AGP is also conducting a survey in each constituency like the BJP. Candidates will be finalized only after the survey. Only candidates who have a chance to win will be nominated,” said Bora.
The survey has already been conducted by two different organizations. It will be finalized only after the report of this survey is received.
Contrary to the remarks made by the AGP president Atul Bora, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass has already figured out how to get 103 seats between the BJP and the alliance.
According to President Dass, the BJP is sure to win all the 60 seats it won in the 2016 elections. On the other hand, AGP will win their 14 seats and 12 seats in the BTC constituency. The BJP will also win all the eight seats held by the Congress-AIUDF. In addition, the BJP’s four minority candidates and an increase of one seat in Barak valley will bring the total number of BJP seats to 103.
