GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the state government’s flagship scheme—Redesigned Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (Re- SVAYEM) on Wednesday. The ambitious scheme which would benefit around 2 lakh youths with Rs. 50 thousand each was launched at a function at Kumar Bhaskar Barman Kshetra, Amingaon.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Sonowal asserted that the scheme would help the youths to develop entrepreneurship skills and become self-reliant.
“This fund has been provided to develop your skills. You must take resolution to earn Rs. 5 lakh with this 50 thousand,” Sonowal said.
Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that other facilities in different sectors would be provided to the eligible groups in future.
“We also have plans to register these groups under departments like PWD, Irrigation, Water Resources so that you can work for the small-scale projects in the rural areas,” said Sarma.

Former MP and Assam BJP in-charge Baijayant Panda, Assam ministers Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Bhabesh Kalita, Palashbari MLA Pranab Kalita, Hajo MLA Suman Haripriya and finance department officials also attended the ceremonial launch of the scheme.

The ambitious scheme has been redesigned to develop an ‘Entrepreneurship-Oriented-Ecosystem’ in the state. It aims at strengthening local industries and rural economy.
The government will provide ‘Seed Money’ and ‘Working Capital Support’ to 2 lakh members of enterprising groups to undertake new economic activities or expand their existing businesses.
Each member of the selected eligible group would be given a seed capital of Rs. 50,000 in two tranches for promoting entrepreneurial activities at the grass root level.
Under the scheme, the government of Assam will assist existing groups (5-20 members) such as:
Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
Joint Liability Groups (JLGs)
Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO)
