Guwahati: The Assamese film ‘Life in a Puppet’ directed by Rajen Das has brought good news to Assam while keeping the people of the state happy with the enthusiasm of Bhogali Bihu. Life in a Puppet has won the Best International Film award at the Uruvatti International Film Festival (UIFF) in Chennai.
Rajen Das has also been awarded the Best Indian Film Director Award. The film has won a total of seven awards in various categories, including Best Actress and Best Screenplay in the Indian film industry.
Organized in honor of the legendary men of the southern film world, the festival director said that more than 100 films from around 30 countries have participated in the festival.
The Indonesian film ‘Rio The Survivor’ is considered to be the best film in every category.
Rajen Das’s film ‘Life in a Puppet’, based on the endangered puppet dance of Assam, has won the title of the Best Film from many internationally acclaimed banners participating in the festival.
Films from the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Great Britain, France, Japan, Korea, Namibia, Unite Arab Emirates, and other countries participated in the festival. But it was Assam’s film ‘Life in a Puppet’ that outshined all the other films that were screened at the festival.
Rajen Das, Director, Life in a Puppet, has been awarded the Best Director and Production Award in the Indian Film category. In the same category, Asha Barda has won the Best Actress award for her role as a puppet dancer in the film. Dipanbita Das, on the other hand, has been honored Best Actress by the jury in this category.
Popular actress Asha Bordaloi, Dipandita Das, Narayan Deka, who is associated with the puppet theatre, and Prakash Thakuria feature in this film. Famous singer Tarali Sarma is the music director.
Life in a Puppet Story and Screenwriter Rajen Das has been honored with the Best Script Writer award. He has also been awarded the Best Cinematographer award in the Indian branch.
In February, the festival’s jury will exchange views on the virtual platform with three of the world’s most successful directors.
The festival authorities have informed the director that Rajen Das, the director of Life in a Puppet has been selected from India.
Speaking to the media Director, Rajen Das said, “The film is a bold attempt to revive this person through the global promotion and dissemination of the extinct puppet dance of Assam. The continued success of the film has inspired us since the beginning of the journey. I am grateful to the media and the people of Assam.”
The film is based on the story of Narayan Deka, the founder of the Assam Puppet Theater and all the artists associated with puppet dance.
