GUWAHATI: In a major step to inspire the girl students to pursue higher education, the Assam government is going to distribute scooties to over 22 thousand meritorious girl students of the state. Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma kicked off the mega scheme by distributing scooties to the girl students of Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts at a function at Numali Jalah Parade Ground, Amingaon.
The scooters have been provided as Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award under Pragyan Bharati scheme.
The girl students of remianing districts will be given the scooters at district level functions on January 2 and 3, 2021.
Speaking on the occasion, Assam CM Sonowal spoke on his government’s commitment to ensure security to the women.
Education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expreesd hope that the initiative to give scooters to the girl students would boost educational scenario of the state.

On the other hand, the girl students who had got the scooters thanked the government.
“Yes, we are very happy to get the scooties. We are thankful to the government,” said a student.
