Goa Government cancels Sunburn Festival

Guwahati:  The news of the much-awaited Sunburn music festival being cancelled has left music lovers across the country disheartened. Organized by Percept Live, the festival was supposed to take place in Goa’s Vagator from December 27 to 29.

The Goa government has been at the receiving end of criticism ever since it had permitted the organisers to host the event. In a move that came as a major setback for the music fest, the Tourism Department of Goa withdrew the permission granted to Percept Live.

The company took to its social media handles to announce that it has decided to reschedule the event following the cancelation. “In consultation with the authorities, we have decided to reschedule the Sunburn Goa 2020, originally planned for the dates 27, 28 & 29 December in Vagator, Goa,” it said in an official statement.

The statement also mentions that while the organisers were overwhelmed by the response they have received from their fans across the country, the company’s priority was to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the attendees of the event.

It also noted that the live music industry has been “practically shut down” for the last nine months, which has severely impacted the livelihoods of thousands.

Percept Live further noted that it was hopeful that the situation would improve in the coming months and it will analyze the circumstances before announcing new dates for the festival.

Earlier this year, the company had to cancel its Sunburn live events like Arenas, Reloads and Campus tours. However, it has managed to keep music lovers entertained with successful virtual gigs over the last seven months. The gigs featured more than 180 leading international and Indian artists including KSHMR, Nicky Romero, Alison Wonderland, Lost Frequencies, Paul Van Dyk, Skazi, Sam Feldt, Diego Miranda, Maddix, Spin Doctor, Bassjackers, and Vini Vici.
