Use ‘Paanchphuran’ instead of Onions advises Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan

Guwahati:  Citing health and finance benefits, BJP MLA from Dibrugarh, Prasanta Phukan on Friday said that people should use ‘Paanchphuran’ (mix of five spices used in traditional cuisine) as a substitute for highly-priced onions.

MLA Phukan said that all the ingredients that are present in ‘Paanchphuran’ including Fenugreek seeds (Methi) are good for the health. So, people should definitely opt for ‘Paanchphuran’ as it may help in controlling Diabetes, High Blood Pressure etc.

While speaking to the media MLA Phukan said, “Right now, people should not worry about the prices of onions. Instead of Onions the people can use ‘Paanchphuran’ as a substitute. In rural areas people often use ‘Paanchphuran’ instead of Onions.”

He also added, “To cook chicken people in rural areas use 2 onions whereas people in urban areas need 1 kg onion to cook food. In a month about 2-2.5 kg of onion is required in a household.”

“The people are never thankful to a government when the prices of onions come down. The people only complain when there is a sharp spike in onion prices mostly due to supply constraints,” said Prasanta Phukan.

People in Assam are facing a tough time in purchasing onions as the retail prices have gone up suddenly. Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered various concerned departments to form teams and check this sudden artificial price rise.
