Happy Birthday Virender Sehwag: Former Team India opener turns 42 today

Guwahati: Former Team India opener Virender Sehwag, who is widely renowned as the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’, celebrates his 42nd birthday on Tuesday (October 20).

During his playing days, Sehwag notched up a total of 8,586 runs from 104 Tests he played at an average of 49.34 besides also amassing 8,273 runs from 251 ODIs.

The former opener also appeared in 19 T20Is for India, accumulating 394 runs.

In 2003, he became the first Indian to hit a triple-century, reaching the milestone with a six. And four years later, he broke the record for the quickest triple-ton – off 278 balls. His 319 against South Africa remains the highest score by an Indian in the format.

The cricket fraternity Virender Sehwag, who is celebrating his 41st birthday.

Cricketers took to Twitter and extended wishes to the ‘Sultan of Multan.’

“Cracking the ball on the field and cracking jokes off it has always been your mantra! Janamdin Mubarak Viru,” former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.

West Indies stalwart Chris Gayle wished Sehwag and wrote, “Happy birthday legend, @virendersehwag wish you many more.”

“Happy birthday to the most dangerous batsman I have ever bowled to @virendersehwag jeo Lala..modern day’s VIV Richards,” Harbhajan Singh tweeted.

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman posted a picture with Sehwag and wrote, “Special birthday wishes to a special friend [?] @virendersehwag May your birthday be sprinkled with fun and laughter. Have a great day and year ahead Bratha.”

“Happy birthday @virendersehwag first played together in 1998 u19 WC in SA, jeevan mein entertainment ki kami nahi huyi tab se,” Mohammad Kaif tweeted.

After retiring, Sehwag keeps his fans entertained on social media throughout the year in a unique manner but also his posts inevitably end up going viral.
