BSF Guwahati Frontier apprehends two with opium

GUWAHATI: Troops of Border Security Force (BSF) under Guwahti frontier conducted a special operation and apprehended two Indian nationals along with 750 gram raw opium from Chungerkata village under Cooch Behar district of West Bengal on Monday. 

“Acting on tip off, troops of BSF of 140 Bn BSF under Guwahati Frontier launched a special operation in general area of Chungerkata (near Icchaganj Market) Police Station-Mathabahnga, Distt -Coochbehar (West Bengal). As per planed BSF party stopped the suspects. They were plying from Bhangamore to Chungerkata (Icchaganj market) by two bicycles,”said public relations officer (PRO) of BSF Guwahati frontier in a statement.

Special operation party observed a plastic bag on the bicycle of the suspects.  During the search operation, BSF personnel recovered 750 gram raw opium from their possession.

The accused have been identied as 55-year-old Sunil Barman and 35-year-old Mahesh Chandra Barman.  Both of them are residents of Bhangamor under Mathabhanga police station in Cooch Behar.

The suspects along with seized raw opium and vehicle were handed over to Mathabhanga police station, the PRO said.
