Bad weather and rainfall played spoilsport across Assam, affecting election rallies across the State with several meetings and rallies either cancelled or rescheduled owing to inclement weather.
However, at many other places people were seen braving bad weather and attended the election rallies of the parties and candidates they support.
As many as five election rallies of NEDA convener and Assam Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had to be cancelled due to rain.
Sarma’s rallies at Sorupathar, Merapani, Bokakhat and Dergaon had to be cancelled since his chopper could not take off due to rainfall and low visibility.
A couple of rallies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also cancelled due to bad weather. Election rallies of the chief minister at Rupohi and Naoboicha were cancelled.
However, the chief minister did address rallies at Chinamara in Jorhat and at Amguri under Jorhat parliamentary constituency for party candidate Topon Kumar Gogoi.
Interestingly, Congress leader and former minister Rakibul Hussain resorted to the use of technology to address a meeting at Naoboicha. Since he could make it to the rally venue physically, he addressed the people through video call.
Several other campaign meetings were also affected across the State due to bad weather and rain.
