Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2 the most disliked trailer on YouTube amid nepotism debate

PUBLISHED:

Guwahati: Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2 is already at the  centre of a controversy. The trailer of ‘Sadak 2’ featuring Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Makarand Deshpande released on August 12, 2020, but was instantly rejected. ‘Sadak 2’ trailer has gone on to become the most disliked trailer on the internet.

The trailer has received 4.5 million ‘dislikes’ on the video sharing platform, with a massively unfavourable ‘like-dislike’ ratio. With more than 15 million views, only 2,55,000 people have ‘liked’ the trailer.

Various people have rejected the trailer calling it a product of ‘nepotism’. The topic began after the Bhatts (Mahesh Bhatt, Alia Bhatt) were called out by Kangana Ranaut soon after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise. She alleged them of running a movie mafia.

A campaign to make it the most disliked trailer on YouTube was initiated in the days leading up to its unveiling, by fans of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide in June. Sushant’s fans have been propagating the conspiracy theory that the actor was ostracised by the film industry, most notably by ‘insiders’, which drove him to suicide.

‘Sadak 2’ came under scrutiny even more after it was the first film rated on the ‘nepometer’, started by Sushant Singh Rajput’s brother-in-law Vishal Kirti’s brother Mayuresh Krishna. The film was called 98 percent nepotistic.

Sadak 2, a sequel to his 1991 film starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja, will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on August 28. The film was intended for a theatrical release, but producer Mukesh Bhatt said that they were forced to take the streaming route after the coronavirus pandemic shut down several industries, including film.
