The CBI Special Court, Guwahati, today (Jan 30) awarded life sentences to main accused Ranjan Daimary and nine other convicted accused in the Oct 30 serial blasts case. The court had on Monday (Jan 28) convicted 14 accused, including the then NDFB chairman Ranjan Daimary, for their role in the near simultaneous explosions that killed nearly 90 people besides injuring and maiming 800 others on Oct 30, 2008.
Apart from Ranjan Daimary, the other nine blast masterminds who were awarded life sentence are George Boro, Ajay Basumatary, Raju Sarkar, Rajen Goyari, B Thorai, Ansai Boro, Indra Brahma, Lok Basumatary and Khargeshwar Basumatary were awarded life imprisonment by court.
On the other hand, Jayanti Brahma, Prabhat Boro and Mathuram Brahma have been slapped with fines of Rs 12,000 each.

Nilim Daimary, who was also convicted on Monday, was sentenced to prison for 7 years. However, considering the fact that he has been lodged in prison for 10 years, he was released from prison.
Meanwhile Ranjan Daimary’s counsel Manas Sarania expressed his disappointment with the sentencing and claimed that they will challenge it in the Gauhati High Court.
