Two woman devotees made history after they entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple becoming the first women of menstruating age to enter the temple after the Supreme Court verdict that allowed women of all age entry into Lord Ayyappa’s shrine.
Fourty-two-year-old Bindu, said to be a CPI(ML) activist, and Kanakadurga (44), an employee of the civil supplies department, entered the temple around 3:45 in the morning and were escorted by policemen in civil dress. The two women reportedly began climbing the steps to the shrine around midnight and reached the temple at 3:45 am.

The temple was shut for a few hours for ‘purification’ rituals after the two women defied the centuries-old ban before reopening.
Meanwhile, protests broke out at many places in Kerala, including Kochi and Thiruvanathapuram, with protesters reportedly clashing with policemen and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
