Tigress which strayed out of flood-hit Kaziranga rescued

GUWAHATI: Ending an operation of more than 24 hours, forest officials along with veterinarians, local administration and NGOs rescued a tigress which strayed out of flood-hit Kaziranga National park and Tiger Reserve in Assam.

The tiger was taking shelter at a house of one Prabin Bora in Baghmari area at Bagori range since Tuesday.

After the operation of more than 24 hours, the national park staff along with the police, local administration and NGOs successfully tranquilised and rescued the tigress.

The tigress has been shifted to the rescue centre at Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC).

Meanwhile, Assam forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya expressed his gratitude to all who were associated with the successful operation.

“Proud of the whole team for this successful operation. Gratitude towards @assampolice,@wti_org_india,@ifawglobal,local residents & all associated for showing immense care & affection & cooperation for this beautiful animal,” the minister tweeted.

Earlier in the day, a baby rhinoceros which was separated from its mother was also rescued.
