Stone quarry manager Apurba Kakoty reaches Jagun

PUBLISHED:

Apurba Kakoty, manager of a stone quarry located at Jagun in Tinsukia district who was allegedly abducted by suspected ULFA (I) militants on Nov 19 and subsequently released yesterday (Nov 27), has reached Jagun.

Apurba was released near Lanka Basti along the Indo-Myanmar border and reached Changlang district of Arunachal where he met some labourers involved in construction of a road. He reportedly contacted his family members and was subsequently brought to Jagun by a team of policemen.

TV visuals showed Apurba with cops and is said to be medically fit despite spending the night under the clear sky after he failed to track out of the forested area.

Incidentally, although ULFA (I) did not claim to have abducted Apurba, Assam Police said the banned outfit was behind the stone quarry manager’s abduction along with the kidnapping of a tea garden manager at Borhat in Charaideo district of Assam.

The abduction had led to sensation, particularly after five persons of a particular community were gunned down at Dhola in Tinsukia district.
