GUWAHATI: Amid COVID-19 induced lockdown and challenges to the livelihood of the economically weaker section Assam health and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a good news for the workers of the state. Addressing a press meet in Guwahati, Dr. Sarma announced that daily wage of workers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has been increased from Rs. 182 to Rs. 202.
The decision to increase the wage under MGNREGA has been taken to provide relief to the migrant labourers who are returning to their home state.
Dr. Sarma also announced several other benefits for the citizens of Assam from the financial package announced by prime minister Narendra Modi.
“We whole-heartedly welcome the package,” said Sarma.
