Assam MLA from Hojai, Shiladitya Dev, on Friday criticized his own party MLA from Dispur, Atul Bora, for the latter’s remarks on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. Dev even went on to say that Atul Bora should be lodged behind bars for making such self-destructing statements.
“Atul Bora has joined BJP only to become an MLA,” the Hojai BJP MLA said referring to Bora’s joining the party in 2013. “He does not follow the principles of Bharatiya Janata Party, which is nationalism; he has joined the wrong party to continue his regionalism ideology,” the Hojai MLA added.

Earlier, on Thursday, Atul Bora opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. Speaking in the Assam Assembly, the Dispur MLA said: “I have taken active participation in Assam Movement and I will never support the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. I will continue my opposition to this bill till my last breath.”
The Dispur MLA had also said he would rather commit suicide than support the bill.
It may be noted that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill saw massive protest in Assam with various groups and organizations, including BJP’s alliance partner AGP, opposing the bill tooth and nail.
