GUWAHATI: Jorhat district administration in Assam has suspended the ferry service between Jorhat and river island Majuli for an indefinite period after two women from Jorhat tested COVID-19 positive on Saturday. The district administration ordered the suspension of the service with immediate effect to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus.
After nearly one and half month, ferry service was resumed May 4 in the Majuli (eastern Assam) and Jorhat route. The decision to stall the service came following the two COVID-19 positive cases in Jorhat district.
According to reports, the two women from Jorhat who tested COVID-19 positive on Saturday were dropped by an ambulance from Mumbai. The ambulance driver who was sent back to Mumbai also tested COVID-19 positive. The women were under quarantine at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital since their arrival in the town.
