Assam CM, Health Minister mourn Rishi Kapoor’s demise

Guwahati:  Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed their condolences at the demise of veteran Bollywood  actor Rishi Kapoor.

Taking to twitter Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his condolences. The tweet said, “Deeply anguished to learn about the demise of the legendary #RishiKapoor Ji. A veteran actor, he essayed a plethora of roles entertaining generations. His invaluable contribution to Indian cinema will never be forgotten. My prayers to the Kapoor family in this time of grief.

The nation is still mourning the demise of Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan who passed away on Wednesday, and now,  Rishi Kapoor’s death has come as a second blow. Rishi Kapoor was 67 years old and leaves behind his wife (Nitu Singh Kapoor), daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahani and son Ranbir Kapoor.

Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also took his official Twitter handle to express his grief over the demise of Rishi Kapoor. The tweet said, “Heartbreaking! Two days in a row. We have lost another star. His charming face always brought smiles to all. An actor who carried his family’s legacy of perfection so well! You films shall continue to delight many for many more years to come. #RIPRishiKapoor

According to a statement issued by his family, Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 AM in hospital on Thursday after a two-year battle with leukemia.

“The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him,” the statement read.

In a career spanning over four decades, Rishi Kapoor starred in iconic films including Bobby, Karz, Chandni, Kabhi Kabhie and Kapoor ans Son’s.
